1980年、第10回ショパンコンクール優勝。あわせてマズルカ賞、ポロネーズ賞、コンツェルト賞も受賞。アジア出身ピアニストがヨーロッパ最高の国際コンクールに初めて優勝した快挙であった。以後世界40ヵ国以上を訪れコンサートを行い、世界トップクラスのオーケストラとの共演も多く、さらに世界各地の音楽祭、マスタークラス等活躍を続けている。浜松国際ピアノ・コンクールを始め、クララ・ハスキル、ラフマニノフ、クリーヴランド、ショパン・コンクールなどの審査員を務めている。

Won the first prize, Mazurka, Polonaise and Concerto in the 10th Chopin International Piano Competition in 1980. Popular as the first Asian pianist to win such a great prize. Playing an active part not only as a soloist but also in chamber music. Many discs have been published and wins a great reputation. A  jury member of International Piano Competitions in Hamamatsu, Clara Haskil,　Rachmaninov, Cleveland, Piano Masters of Monte Carlo, & Chopin.
