Born in Osaka, Seiji Kageyama
graduated the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music
in 1982. He is the recipient of the following awards:
* 46th Japan Music Concours,
third prize
* Matsushita Overseas Concours
* Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music Ataka Prize
* Kirishima International Music Award (at the first Kirishima
International
Music Festival in 1980; Music Director Gerhard Bosse)
* Tokyo International Music Competition, chamber music division,
second prize

* Hideo Saito Prize (1980)
* Wieniawski International Concours (Poland, 1981)
* Long-Thibaud International Competition, highest honors (second
prize, with
no first prize winners and three special prizes; 1984)
Receipt of top honors at the
Long-Thibaud competition signaled general recognition of Seiji
Kageyama as a violinist of substance and eloquence. In 1985
he joined with pianist Michie Koyama and cellist Nobuko Yamazaki
to form a trio that performed throughout Europe. In March,
1989, he gave a highly successful recital in Berlin on invitation
by the former East German government that led to duo concerts
with the orchestras of Weimar, Eisenech and 6 other cities.
He has also performed with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra,
the Berlin Komische Oper Orchestra and the Simon Bolivar Orchestra.
In Japan he has made many successful appearances as soloist
with major orchestras, in recitals and as part of chamber
ensembles. An extensive series of duo concerts and chamber
performances made with the late Czech piano virtuoso Jan Paneka
received overwhelming critical acclaim.
For the past several years Seiji Kageyama has given regular
violin seminars in association with Fukuoka Symphony Hall.
He is a member of the Kirishima International Music Festival
planning committee and also participates in this annual summer
event as a performer and master class professor. He is an
associate professor at the Tokyo Academy of Music.
